177. Lessons from Bezalel — Aneel Aranha

Hello and welcome to The Hope Podcast. I'm Aneel Aranha. Today, we will talk about Bezalel, a craftsman from the book of Exodus, and the spiritual insights we can glean from his story.

Bezalel isn't a name that often comes up in Bible studies, but his role was crucial in the construction of the Tabernacle. In the Book of Exodus, God says, "See, I have chosen Bezalel... and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills — to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts" (Exodus 31:1-5).

This passage reveals several important truths. First, God values skilled craftsmanship. The beauty and intricacy of the Tabernacle weren't afterthoughts but part of God's design.

Second, all abilities come from God. Bezalel's skills were described as a filling of the Spirit, reminding us that our talents are divine gifts.

Third, there's no division between "sacred" and "secular" work when done for God's glory. Bezalel's metalwork and carpentry were as spiritual as Aaron's priestly duties.

How can we apply Bezalel's example to our lives? Start by recognizing your skills and talents as God-given, whether they're in art, technology, business, or homemaking.

Use your abilities to serve God and others. As Peter says, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms" (1 Peter 4:10).

Seek excellence in your work as an act of worship. Paul encourages us, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters" (Colossians 3:23).

Be open to divine inspiration in your work. Just as God filled Bezalel with wisdom and understanding, He can guide us in our endeavors.

As you embrace a Bezalel-like approach to your work and talents, you may find a new sense of purpose and joy in your daily tasks, seeing them as part of God's greater design.

God bless you.
