175. Sexual Intimacy — Aneel Aranha

Hello and welcome to The Hope Podcast. I'm Aneel Aranha. Today, we will talk about sexuality from a Christian perspective.

Sexuality is a gift from God, created as part of His good design. The Book of Genesis tells us that after creating humans as male and female, "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good" (Genesis 1:31). This includes our sexuality.

The Song of Solomon celebrates the beauty of romantic and physical love within the context of a committed relationship. It reminds us that sexuality, rightly expressed, can be a source of joy and intimacy.

However, like all good gifts, sexuality can be misused. Paul warns us to "Flee from sexual immorality" (1 Corinthians 6:18). This isn't because sexuality is bad, but because its misuse can be deeply harmful.

How can we develop a healthy, Christian view of sexuality? First, recognize its sacred nature. Our sexuality is part of being made in God's image and should be treated with reverence.

Understand that sexuality goes beyond physical acts. It encompasses our identity as men and women, our capacity for intimacy, and our ability to give and receive love.

For those who are married, view sexual intimacy as a way to strengthen your bond and reflect God's covenant love. The author of Hebrews says, "Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure" (Hebrews 13:4).

For singles, recognize that sexuality is part of who you are, even if not expressed in physical intimacy. Cultivate healthy relationships and find appropriate ways to express love and affection.

Remember, our ultimate identity is in Christ, not in our sexuality. Paul reminds us, "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28).

As you embrace a Christian view of sexuality, you may find a deeper appreciation for God's design and a more holistic understanding of love and intimacy. Your perspective can offer hope and healing in a world often confused about sexuality.

God bless you.
