027: God Will Make A Way
Hello and welcome to The Hope Podcast. I’m Aneel Aranha. Today we are going to talk about how God will make a way when there seems to be no way.
Have you ever driven your car into a dead end? It seems like we are left with no option but to change direction. When going through life we often come across such dead ends: doors that slam shut in our faces or obstacles so formidable they halt us in our tracks. They stand like mountains in front of us, mocking our inability to do anything in the face of their challenge.
We face such obstacles in our careers when we make no progress whatsoever. We face them in our relationships when we seem to make no headway. We face them with our personal health when we find no cure for our ailment. They are impossible situations that make us want to quit. What are we do?
Well, we listen to what God has to say and believe it to be true. And what does he have to say? Speaking for him the prophet Isaiah said, “I will go before you and will level the mountains!” (Isaiah 45:2).
God is not saying that he will cut a tunnel in the mountain so we can pass through it. He is not saying that he will prepare a path over it. He is saying he will level the mountains, razing them so that you will have free and clear passage over level ground. What an amazing promise! But how are we to appropriate it? The same way we appropriate all God’s promises. By believing in them. This is all that faith is.
However, we cannot have faith in promises unless we know and trust the person making them, and this involves establishing a personal relationship with them. Our problem is that we may not really know God. Simply quoting the things he says is not going to do anything at all, no matter how many times we quote them or how vehemently. But when we know God and experience his great love, then we start to put our trust in him. We begin to believe what he says is true. Then his promises come to pass.
So, dear friend, if you don’t have a personal relationship with God, now might be a good time to start. Follow Jesus’ advice in developing this. “When you pray,” he says, “go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen” (Matthew 6:6). Relationships are always developed one on one, in private. And if you already have a relationship with God, perhaps you should deepen it by meditating on his word.
And then you will see how those things that seemed impossible suddenly become possible. And you will know that he is the Lord, who summons you by name (Isaiah 45:3).
